World No. 5 Ons Jabeur has moved into back-to-back Grand Slam finals following her straight-set victory over Caroline Garcia in the semi-finals of the 2022 US Open. Jabeur defeated the Frenchwoman 6-1, 6-3 to give herself yet another chance for her maiden Grand Slam title.

Ons had finished as the runner-up at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships and having gone down in 3-sets against Elena Rybakina. She however picked herself well and in the very next major has reached the finals and has reclaimed the World No. 2 spot on the rankings yet again.

“I love how every player is fighting every week,”: Ons Jabeur

Jabeur was asked about her consistency on the Tour this year and how has it been for her as WTA Tour is often criticised for poor consistency of players and surprise winners quite frequently, something that doesn’t happen on the ATP Tour as often.

“We’re just trying to manage and learn how to be more and more consistent. It’s tough to play a lot of tournaments. I feel like the difference between the men and women is before it didn’t happen but then they had Federer, Djokovic and Nadal. I think now we will see more players coming up.

“Before we just had Serena. She cannot play all the tournaments and she was pretty consistent and that really inspired a lot of players. But it is better for us to be consistent and do great results and we’re trying to do that. Iga did inspire us with her winning streak.

“We gonna keep continue fighting and I honestly love how every player is fighting every week and how they try to do the best they can,” said Jabeur addressing the question and taking pride in the efforts put in by her colleagues on the Tour.

Jabeur’s statements make more sense upon pondering as with the lowering of participation of the Big-3, the Tour has opened up and surprise winners are becoming more common while the WTA Tour continues to look for leaders in form of Jabeur and Iga Swiatek.
