Novak Djokovic‘s love story with controversies is better than Twilight at times. Even after winning a record-equaling 22nd Grand Slam and inching closer to finally ending the GOAT debate, the Serbian World No.1 has been accused of faking his hamstring injury during the Australian Open 2023 by a section of tennis fans. This is now fueled by French doctor Olivier Rouillon. Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley had earlier disclosed that Djokovic had a 3 cm tear in his Hamstring but the renowned Doctor refuses to believe it fully.

Rouillon who was the doctor of the French Golf federation opined citing Tiley’s revelation, “Maybe he doesn’t really have a tear, just a few little fibers that have come off the muscle envelope, a little grade 1 lesion. With painkillers and a number of physiotherapy and physiotherapy techniques, they succeeded in bringing down the pain.”

If he had a major tear, no more pain after two or three days, despite the “miraculous” techniques you told me about, that seems unlikely. You may have a squeaky hamstring with minimal injury

Djokovic’s coach Goran Ivanisevic had earlier revealed that his player was really close to pulling off from the tournament but the mental ability of the Serbian got him through the difficult times. He even called the Serbian “different species” while lauding praises upon him.

Ivanisevic also revealed that the third-round match against Grigor Dimitrov was the most fearful due to the injury concerns. He also criticized Dimitrov for not playing enough drop shots during the match where Djokovic was really struggling physically. (Source: We love Tennis, translated by google)

Novak Djokovic was accused of faking an Abdomen injury in Australian Open 2021

Novak Djokovic

The Serbian World No.1 Novak Djokovic has been accused of faking injuries before as well. One of the most noted tournaments is the Australian Open 2021 where he said he had an abdomen tear. Despite the injury concerns, he flew past Daniil Medvedev in straight sets in the final. The only match he seemed to be in the struggle was against Taylor Fritz in the third round where he lost 2 sets. But he came back strong in the fifth set to seal the deal.

Djokovic’s journey in the 2023 Australian Open was also similar. His most difficult match this year was in the second round against Enzo Couacaud where he lost the only set of the tournament. 2021 later turned out to be one of the best years in Djokovic’s career. He was almost on the verge of winning the calendar slam after winning 3 slams and then going through to the finals of the US Open. But Medvedev was able to stop the Serbian then. This year, the rejuvenated Serbian will have eyes on that as well with doors opened for playing the US open.

The US Open has given him green light to play due to the change in policies of Covid vaccine mandates. USA Government has extended the emergency Covid measures only until May 11 before scrapping them entirely. The US Open will be played between August 28 and September 10 this year.
