Alexander Volkanovski doesn’t want any of the fans to whine about there being “No Coach Khabib“ when he wins against Islam Makhachev. Volkanovski doesn’t want the narrative to be changed when he eventually wins against Islam.
Volkanovski, in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, looks confident that he is going to win his bout against Makhachev. He loves the hate that he is getting because that motivates him. But he is worried about just one thing.
He doesn’t want people to forget where they put Islam before fighting him, he wants him to be kept there even after he gets his hand raised. Volkanovski is aware that this fight is more than just belts on the line, it is more of the legacy. He doesn’t want people to say that Islam would’ve won if Khabib had cornered Islam like usual. He just doesn’t want his efforts to be undermined, when he eventually wins his fight.
Alexander Volkanovski will be fighting Islam Makhachev on February 11th in Perth, Australia. Islam will have his UFC lightweight belt on the line and Volkanovski has put his P4P #1 on the line. Only Feb 11 will tell the community who will get what.
Why Khabib left Islam Makhachev just before his fight against Alexander Volkanovski
Khabib has cornered and mentored Islam Makhachev in almost all his fights. His advice for his teammates has helped them win many a fight. But he won’t be cornering Islam for his fight against Volkanovski for UFC 284.
“ [In] 2022 he spent just two months at home with his family, but all the other time he traveled a lot. That’s why he wants to spend more time with his family”, Islam said. Makhachev seems to understand Khabib’s reasons for traveling a lot less compared to last year. But he doesn’t seem worried because he has fought without Khabib in his corner many times and Khabib has already advised him on the game plan against Volkanovski.
UFC 284 will decide if P4P #1 would change or if Volkanovski gets the champ champ status. The moment of truth is almost upon the community. It is just a matter of a few days until the fans will get to see, potentially, the greatest fight to ever happen.
