Khamzat Chimaev has not fought since his submission victory over Kevin Holland at UFC 279. After the victory over Holland came much speculation about where Chimaev will fight next. Chimaev went on the MMA hour and talked about his beef with Khabib Nurmagomedov with Ariel Helwani.
Looking forward to his next fight, he went on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. In the interview, he clarified the beef with Khabib Nurmagomedov and other Dagestani fighters. Chimaev said, “I’ve never had problems with Khabib. When I grew up, in Uzbekistan, in Chechnya, we fight each other like that. Everyone is like, Khamzat didn’t like Khabib, and Khabib didn’t like Khamzat. But we never had problems like that.”
It appears that Khamzat Chimaev and fighters from Dagestan or Khabib Nurmagomedev never had serious problems with each other. It is just a cultural thing where everyone keeps fighting each other to build a stronger mentality. Chimaev missed weight when he got booked to fight Nate Diaz and the UFC cancelled the bout. He ended up facing Kevin Holland. Due to the weight miss, Dana White recently clarified that Chimaev would fight in the Middleweight division.

On the other hand, Khabib Nurmagomedov decided to step away from coaching, wanting to spend more time with his family. However, other Dagestani fighters such as Islam Makachev and Usman Nurmagomedov remain a hot commodity in MMA.

Khamzat Chimaev responds to Colby Covinton’s accusation once again. He revealed that they were asked to fight each other, but Colby never accepted the fight. However, Chimaev is confident that he will beat Colby in a potential fight. He expressed his take on a potential matchup with Ariel Helwani.

Chimaev said, “For me, that is an easy fight. Stylistically for me, it is much easier. I am a much better grappler than him, much better wrestler than him, my striking as well, hard punch. He spoke about his cardio. How is he going to use his cardio? How is he going to take me down? How is he going to hurt me? He is too little a boy.”
It appears any fight between Covington and Chimaev will have to wait. Colby got the next title shot at Welterweight, and Chimaev is moving to the Middleweight division next.
