Makhachev confirms Khabib’s absence in the corner for Alexander Volkanovski super fight
On Monday, UFC Lightweight Champion, Islam Makhachev revealed that Khabib Nurmagomedov will not be in his corner for the super fight against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284.
“Of course, it’s going to be different but I’ve already fought without him a couple of times. And he cannot always be with me,” Islam explained. “But I understand that he has to spend more time with his family. Because with all the fighting, and the training, his family miss him too. Even though he is retired he’s still traveling a lot,” Islam added further.
“They better not use it as an excuse once this is all done,” Volkanovski told Fox Sports Australia. “He doesn’t need someone to hold his hand. So when my hand gets raised, that better not come up,” the Australian champ added further.
Islam Makhachev is currently on an 11-fight win streak with his recent championship victory over former Lightweight Champ, Charles Oliveira. On the other hand, Alexander Volkanovski has been on a 12-fight win streak and is possibly the greatest featherweight.
