New challenger steps up to Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre has been the biggest WWE Superstar of the entire Thunderdome Era. He kicked off 2020 with a massive win at Royal Rumble. He outlasted 29 opponents to earn the ticket to main event Wrestlemania 37. He challenged the “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at the Showcase of Immortals.

While he did dethrone Lesnar to become the WWE Champion, his win came in front of zero live audience. But that didn’t affect the determination of the Scottish Warrior. He was the WWE Champion for a major part of the year, only losing the title once to Randy Orton – for a really short while.

But 2021 wasn’t as impressive. After Bobby Lashley attacked Drew McIntyre, The Miz successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on McIntyre. Since then, McIntyre hasn’t been able to get his hands on the title. Several months have passed since then and the Scottish Warrior is now a part of Smackdown.

But Universal Champion Roman Reigns is currently occupied with a feud against Lesnar, hence McIntyre is being used for other feuds. While he was primarily feuding against Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss, on the latest episode of Smackdown McIntyre faced off against Sheamus. But another Smackdown Superstar has shown interest in facing Drew McIntyre.

“I’m still upset about Sheamus beating me last week, so I hope I can get in the ring with him fairly soon and pay him back for that. It’s fun watching Drew. I’ve never had a match with Drew, so something to think about,” mentioned “Swiss Cyborg” Cesaro in a backstage interview with Megan Morant.

Feud between McIntyre and Cesaro could be on the cards

Drew McIntyre was involved in a Tag Team feud against Madcap Moss and Happy Corbin. But his partner Jeff Hardy has been released from the company. Hence, plans for McIntyre are likely to change in the coming weeks. Him and Sheamus have delivered a lot of memorable bouts – but they had feuded on Raw, a couple of months ago.

Hence, it is unlikely that WWE will go ahead with the feud. With Cesaro mentioning during the show that he wants to face McIntyre – it might be a tease that we might be getting this feud in the coming weeks.
