Roman Reigns retained his Universal Championship

WWE Hell in a Cell is still a day away, but WWE has already treated the fans with a match inside the steel structure, which was worthy of being the main event at the PPV. Roman Reigns defeated Rey Mysterio inside the brutal structure, to retain his Universal Championship.

The match took place on the latest episode of WWE Smackdown, and seemingly concluded the feud between Reigns and Mysterio. The match between the two of the biggest stars on the Smackdown roster was short and fast-paced, much like their short three-week long feud.

At the beginning of the night, Rey Mysterio came out to ensure that Roman Reigns had in fact agreed to fight on Smackdown, instead of the PPV. Universal Champion walked out and confirmed it. With a tense build up to the match, Mysterio, surprisingly had the upper hard for a major part of the match.

Mysterio used steel chair, fore extinguisher, trash can, literally anything he could get his hands on, to fight off Reigns. But ultimately Reigns’ dreaded guillotine choke was enough to make Mysterio tap out.

After the match, Jimmy Uso came out and raised the Tribal Chief’s hand. But this could be WWE’s way of hinting that a huge betrayal is on the cards. We could see a new feud set up between Reigns and Jimmy Uso, with a match at WWE Money in the Bank.

Initially two matches were announced to take place inside the massive steel structure, at WWE PPV – the WWE Championship match between Bobby Lashley and Drew McIntyre, and the Universal Championship match between Roman Reigns and Bobby Lashley.

But hours before the go-home episode of WWE Smackdown aired, WWE moved the Universal Championship match was moved to the Blue brand. The reason for the same has now come to light. WWE wanted to have a women’s Hell in a Cell match too.

But having 3 HIAC matches would’ve made the PPV quite long. Hence, they decided to give both the brands, one match each on the PPV, and moved Reigns vs. Mysterio. Bianca Belair will now face Bayley inside the WWE Hell in a Cell.
