With WrestleMania on the horizon, things are certainly heating up in WWE. Gunther has been on a roll ever since becoming the Intercontinental Champion last year. As of writing, he’s completed 257 days holding that Workhorse Title. He’s now looking forward to welcome his next challenger. To serve the purpose, WWE has announced a special 20-man Battle Royal set to unfold from the Madison Square Garden on March 12.
Some of the notable names include Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Rey Mysterio, Finn Balor and the remaining ones. The complete list can be checked here. One would imagine why WWE is throwing away such high-stakes showdown on a house show. But, any event inside of The Garden is automatically an important feat in WWE’s calendar. That being said, the aforementioned Battle Royal will crown Gunther’s potential opponent for WrestleMania this year.
Despite of the continuous teases, it appears like Brock Lesnar won’t be going up against The Ring General in Los Angeles. In fact, the two probable names that can be put in a significant spot with the Austrian are Drew McIntyre & Sheamus.
A few weeks ago, WrestleVotes reported how WWE officials are strongly considering a mammoth triple threat match for the IC Title at Showcase of the Immortals. According to that, Gunther was set to defend his gold against both members of The Banger Bros. There’s no word on whether that’s the plan anymore.
Gunther recently commented over Roman Reigns’ Elimination Chamber outing
Last Saturday, Roman Reigns entered Montreal as the most hated guy in that city. The reason being, he was going to rip apart the hometown hero Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. As expected, a vociferous crowd at the Bell Centre welcomed Reigns with deafening boos before dropping multiple F-Bombs for The Tribal Chief. Even after wrestling amidst of such hostility, Roman Reigns retained his Undisputed Titles.
Recounting that unreal experience, Gunther shed some personal light on the matter during this week’s WWE’s: The Bump edition. The Intercontinental Champion felt for the people of Montreal who quit the arena in agony. However, giving Roman Reigns his credit, he assured that The Head of the Table will fall sooner than later. Before capping off, the leader of Imperium flaunted their dominance stating that Reigns never got in the ways of that mighty trio.
“I gotta say, yeah, I love it. It’s a very enjoyable situation for me, I gotta say, and if I look at Montréal, what a heartbreak at the end. And yeah, I enjoyed it. I just feel like the pressure is on his shoulders by now because all eyes are on him. So, obviously, nobody can take away the records he set and stuff like that. But once he’s gonna fall, he’s gonna fall hard. And people are waiting for that. But yeah, let’s see who’s gonna be able to end his reign. The Bloodline hasn’t faced us yet, so let’s see.”
