After Roman Reigns, if there has to be someone who’s on everyone’s tips as a dominating figure, it’s Gunther. The Ring General has held that Intercontinental Championship for well over 300 days now. And coming out of the Royal Rumble week, the Austrian beast created another record. He entered at #1 and lasted till death, before eliminated by Cody Rhodes.
Gunther’s main-roster debut was the SmackDown episode post WrestleMania last year. Since then, no one even needs a detailed textbook containing all chapters of The Ring General’s victims. Shortly before he arrived on the scenes on Friday nights, the leader of Imperium had a brief run on NXT 2.0, where he even faced Bron Breakker.
Although the build wasn’t proper and creative failed to put up a captivating story, fans enjoyed whatever Breakker and Gunther served. Fast forward almost a year, both men have grown as much bigger representatives of their respective straps. During a recent chat on The Rise Guys, the Imperium leader expressed his eagerness to once again rekindle their short-lived rivalry, recalling their last encounter.
“I enjoyed that match. It was kind of a little bit rushed because it was my transition to the main roster. So I was always kinda like it had to happen. I wish we could’ve done it with a little more build to it on a bigger platform. But he’s young and I just got started on the main roster. I’m very confident that in the next years in the future we will run into each other again.”

What’s next for Gunther in WWE?

Gunther elevating the Intercontinental Title is a universal fact now. He’s brought back the endangered prestige to that Working Man’s Championship. A majority of fans are ready to term Gunther as the greatest IC Champion of the past decade. Moreover, it wouldn’t be surprising if WWE decides to make him break The Honky Tonk Man’s record for holding that gold for the longest period.
Anyways, let’s just focus on what’s upon in the immediate future. Inorder to determine The Ring General’s next challenger, Rey Mysterio, Karrion Kross, Madcap Moss and Santos Escobar will collide this Friday. Winner of the mentioned Fatal-4-way most probably receives Gunther on the final SmackDown before Elimination Chamber.
