Kevin Owens reveals he sought Cody Rhodes’ permission before tributing WWE Legend at Survivor Series

Kevin Owens was revealed as the fifth member on The Brutes’ side for the high stakes WarGames match at Survivor Series. While Owens fought his level best to take his team to the finishing line but failed as he was betrayed by his best friend Sami Zayn just when he was very close to pinning The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns.
However, one thing that became the highlight for the day was Kevin Owens’ outfit for the event. Owens found his own way of tributing WWE Hall of Famer and Legend Dusty Rhodes, who is also the originator of the match type. The Prizefighter made his way to the ring drawing a Dusty Rhodes T-shirt and his signature red elbow pads.
While speaking on After The Bell podcast, Kevin Owens revealed that he was the first one to wear the t-shirt on the main roster and that means a great deal to him. He also said that before going ahead with the tribute he had a word with The American Dream’s son Cody Rhodes and after Rhodes gave him the green light he proceeded to pay the tribute.
While speaking to Corey Graves, Owens said – “To be part of the first one on the main roster, to have the opportunity to wear Dusty’s shirt and the red elbow pads as a tribute to him, I talked to Cody (Rhodes) beforehand to make sure he was cool with it and everything. It’s always neat to tie back to history and give Dusty a little nod, I try to do that as much as I can because he was so influential in my career.” (H/T- Fightful)
Kevin Owens reveals valuable advice that Dusty Rhodes gave him
On the same podcast, Kevin Owens revealed that Dusty Rhodes proved instrumental to his career as he was still active in NXT when Owens joined the developmental territory. The former Universal Champion said that the Hall of Famer left an indelible mark on his career. Thus, whenever he gets an opportunity to tribute him he never misses it.
Owens also revealed the advice he received from the late Hall of Famer, throughout his career. The Prizefighter said that when he came to WWE he was pretty skeptical because his persona was something that the company was not looking for but Dusty Rhodes made him realise that he can be himself in this business and he doesn’t need to pretend like someone else.

Kevin Owens further said that he accredits his promo work and in-ring presence to Dusty Rhodes as he is the one who helped him regarding both of them. He said that Rhodes made him extremely comfortable in accepting his identity in the company and has helped him a lot throughout his career.
