Original plans for WrestleMania 39 main events before The Rock’s denial reportedly revealed

WrestleMania 39 is around the corner. Wrestling fans all over the world are getting hyped for the event. WWE decides its major plans and matches for the night several months before WrestleMania. However, there have been various changes in plans in recent time. As WrestleMania approaches, the picture for the main titles is becoming clearer.
On February 20, 2020, WWE announced that “WrestleMania 39” will take place at the SoFi stadium. There have been numerous rumors that The Rock will return to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39. However, the Royal Rumble 2023 was a clear indication that the Brahma Bull wouldn’t be there for the event. Wrestling Observer Dave Meltzer spoke on his latest podcast about the original plans the company had. He said that WWE was considering introducing a new championship belt for another night of the event. “If it was Roman and The Rock, they were gonna create a championship on Saturday night that Cody probably would have ended up winning,” he said.
Roman Reigns has been unstoppable ever since winning the two titles. He was set to have one of the biggest blockbuster matches of his career with The Rock. It would have headlined the second night of the event. Besides, WWE needed another championship match to headline the first night. Moreover, the company needed the returning superstar Cody Rhodes to be in the spotlight on one of the nights of WrestleMania 39.
However, WWE knew that splitting the titles from Reigns at this point would harm his star power going into WrestleMania. Meltzer said that, therefore, WWE was looking to introduce a brand new title before its biggest event. He added that it was Drew or Rollins who would win the inaugural championship at the Elimination Chamber. As a result, Cody Rhodes, being the winner of the Royal Rumble, would go on to challenge that champion at WrestleMania. In addition to that, the company also needed two main event titles for its two brands, namely Raw and SmackDown.
However, there has been a major alteration in plans since WWE failed to bring back The Rock. Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble 2023. The American Nightmare challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at The Showcase of The Immortals. As the countdown to WrestleMania approaches, it will be interesting to see how the card for the biggest night of the year shapes up.

The Rock’s status in WWE
WWE fans are disappointed in The Rock for not appearing in WWE. However, the Brahma Bull has been very busy with his Hollywood career lately. As per reports, WWE tried its best to bring him back for a match against The Tribal Chief at WrestleMania 39. However, that has not been possible. The status of The Rock with WWE is uncertain as of now. The fans believe that WrestleMania 39 would have been the perfect stage to witness the dream match between the two Samoan brothers.
Roman Reigns is perhaps at the peak of his career, with the ‘Head of the Table’ gimmick revolving around The Bloodline. The Rock returning and confronting Roman would have been the cherry on top. But it seems the fans have to wait a little longer to witness their dream match between The Rock and Roman Reigns.
