Rey Mysterio has had a great year, with fans loving his work as a tormented father. As per the storyline, Mysterio’s life turned upside down when his son Dominik betrayed him and joined the forces of The Judgment Day. Since then, Dominik has repeatedly threatened and cajoled his father into hitting him. The affection Rey feels for his kid has prevented him from beating him.

Even after switching to SmackDown, Rey Mysterio was still disturbed by his son’s antics. Although Dominik hasn’t attacked his father on SmackDown as of yet, he, along with Rhea Ripley, did enter the house forcefully on Thanksgiving Day and assault his father brutally.

Dominik Mysterio and Rhea Ripley tried to attack Rey on Christmas night, but Rey Mysterio got Dominik arrested. The past year, Mysterio has been mostly involved in fighting as a tag team and in a feud with Judgment Day. Despite receiving an intercontinental championship opportunity near the end of the year, he did not win it.

The luchador’s career spans over 30 years now, and last year he celebrated his 20th anniversary. It is likely that the next year will be Mysterio’s last year of wrestling, as he has stated often that he will wrestle until he is 50 years old. With him being 48 now, the next year will probably be the last time fans will see him wrestle.

During a recent interview with SK Wrestling, WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long stated that Rey Mysterio is broken and beaten up but is financially well settled to announce a call on his career.

“Rey’s been around a long time, and he’s certainly done a lot for the company, so I don’t know……You reach a certain age in your life and if you have saved your money and you got your finances in order, then take a break,”

WWE Hall of Famer Edge, who has worked extensively with Rey Mysterio, heaped praise on the Luchador. In 2021, during an appearance on The Kurt Angle Show, Edge stated that Rey Mysterio doesn’t get enough credit for his exploits in the ring.

The Rated R superstar was skeptical that Mysterio would be fully appreciated until he retired. He claimed that once the Luchador hangs his boots, everyone will realize his significance. Edge commended Mysterio for having an exceptional stage presence and operating at a different level.

“Rey Mysterio, he gets credit, but it’s still not the credit he deserves. I think because he’s been so consistent for so long, that he’s not appreciated to his full extent and I don’t know if he will be fully appreciated until he retires……The term legend is thrown around a lot, dudes a legend. He’s a living legend and one day people will fully latch onto how special Rey Mysterio is.”
