Nick Khan has yet again rejected taking social media criticism of the WWE product seriously. In fact, the company president said during Sports Business Journal‘s CAA World Congress of Sports that WWE will never respond to the online backlash to their programming. Khan added that the company will take cognizance only if the ratings and revenue go down.
He revealed having a conversation last year with WWE CCO Triple H, Head of Talent Relations Chris Legentil, and NXT’s head booker Shawn Michaels about accelerating the next generation of WWE Superstars. They acknowledged that John Cena was on his way out, The Rock was back to filming movies, and several of their top stars like CM Punk were in their late 40s, with many others in that range.
Nick Khan says WWE will never respond to social media criticism of the product, recalls a meeting with Shawn Michaels last year about accelerating the next generation of talent:

The quartet of Khan, Legentil, Levesque, and Michaels concurred on fast-tracking the new crop of talent. Khan wondered how they would achieve it, and ‘HBK’ came up with the suggestion to put those bright prospects in front of the live crowds to gauge the reactions. Khan asserted that it’s great if one gets cheered or booed in wrestling but mentioned that failing to elicit any reaction from the crowd is terrible.
Nick Khan said that WWE has invested in highlighting the next gen of wrestlers. The likes of Oba Femi and Trick Williams are two of the best examples of young blood taking over. They got promoted to the main roster at the start of this year, and neither man has looked back from that point on.
Femi destroyed Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, while Williams won the US title at the marquee event, beating a veteran in Sami Zayn. Several others like Je’Von Evans and Sol Ruca have been placed well in the mid-cards of their respective divisions. While Evans is still pursuing the men’s Intercontinental Championship, Ruca pulled off a major upset quite recently when she ousted Becky Lynch for the women’s IC title at Clash in Italy.
There have been a few more NXT call-ups in recent weeks, with Ethan Page fitting like a glove on Raw and Ricky Saints trying to find his footing on SmackDown. The introduction of Blake Monroe to the blue brand is also expected to give a major boost to its women’s division.
Nick Khan bashed for lying about WrestleMania 40 main event pivot
During the aforementioned SBJ interview, Nick Khan also claimed that the WrestleMania 40 main event ended up exactly how WWE wanted it to be. Khan talked about throwing the fans off with the on-screen drama and asserted that things never changed in regards to WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia. However, the entire wrestling community is aware it’s untrue and has since been calling out Khan for outright lying.

WWE even released a documentary covering the entire turn of events around that WrestleMania with the company pivoting back to Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes instead of Roman Reigns vs. The Rock after intense fan backlash. Fightful noted that Rhodes and several others have said on record that the actual plans for him at WrestleMania 40 would’ve only intensified the discourse.

The outlet wasn’t able to specify what exactly the plan was but affirmed that WWE certainly changed it. The Rock himself admitted in an interview days before teaming up with Roman Reigns against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins that he was originally planned to wrestle his cousin at Mania in Philly.
However, he eventually realized that WWE heading into that direction disappointed those fans that had emotionally invested themselves in Reigns vs. Rhodes for almost two years. ‘The Final Boss’ revealed calling Nick Khan over it and conveying to give the people the story they had all been craving.
