Oscar De La Hoya labels the Canelo vs. Charlo fight as ‘super boring’ and wants to save boxing by calling out the top promoters. Canelo Alvarez recently faced Jermell Charlo, the unified light middleweight champion. Many have criticized their bout, as it was one-sided and unexciting.
Oscar De La Hoya, a boxing legend and promoter, expressed his dissatisfaction in a video, mocking Jermell Charlo‘s uninspiring performance and suggesting that Canelo Alvarez had an effortless victory.
He said, “Canelo [vs] Charlo, super boring fight. I mean he just showed up for a pay cheque. Canelo, obviously like I said, on quicksand throwing bombs. He won easy. But anyway, look, if we want boxing to survive, if we want boxing to thrive, we need superfights like, all the time. Fighters must fight each other, we have to come together.”
De La Hoya emphasized the significance of “super fights” in boxing, saying that they should deliver both entertainment and top-quality performances for boxing fans. As a promoter himself, De La Hoya extended an invitation to fellow prominent promoters, such as Eddie Hearn and Bob Arum, to organize a meeting and plan future matches consisting of the absolute top-tier boxers.
