Max Verstappen is the son of Ex-F1 racing driver Jos Verstappen. In the world of Formula 1, each and every fan is aware of Jos and his persona which has been under the microscope many times. While many fans hate him, some cannot deny the fact that Verstappen Sr’s actions have led to Max becoming the talented racer he is today. Max was born in a family where both the parents were racers which narrowed his career choices to just one.
There have been many stories taking rounds of the internet describing how Jos Verstappen treated Max Verstappen. During his karting days, Max was once abandoned by his father at a gas station in Italy. This was in fact a punishment for the young Dutchman as he had gotten a poor result in a karting race. The father son duo won travel all around Europe in a van with their karts.
Meanwhile, Max’s mother and sister used to be at home. Jos Verstappen was always hard on Max all throughout his childhood. He did not let Max play another sport and made him focus completely on racing. In a new documentary series about Max Verstappen called Anatomy of a champion, Jos shares some intricate details on his child abuse accusations.

Jos Verstappen states that raising Max Verstappen in a tough way was always his plan
“People say I was a bad father who abused my child,” Jos Verstappen is quoted as saying in the Viaplay documentary by Swedish outlet Expressen. “I never abused him. I raised him. I was hard on him and that was my plan. Many have no idea what it takes to reach the top in a sport,” the 51 year old continued.
Jos Verstappen has always been beside Max Verstappen all throughout his childhood and professional racing career. The Dutchman was also charged with assaulting Max’s mother back in 2008. It has also been known that Jos had been arrested for attempted murder as he allegedly drove a car at his ex-girlfriend. All this just goes on to prove how ruthless Max’s dad was. However the father son duo seem to be on good terms.
