When it comes to statistics in the pinnacle of motorsport, Lewis Hamilton rules them all. Having amassed 7 world driver’s championships and more than 100 wins in the sport, it isn’t much of a debate to coin him the greatest driver in F1 history. However, the Brit has made it clear that he doesn’t want to leave F1 empty handed at the end of his glorious stint in the sport.

Lewis Hamilton has taken inspiration from one of his teammates who is none other than Nico Rosberg. The 2016 world champion announced his retirement immediately a few days after winning the title and left the sport at the highest point of his career. Nico still enjoys the fame that he incurred from beating Hamilton in the 2016 season whilst in ‘equal machinery.’

When you look at drivers such as Sebastian Vettel, you wonder whether they still should have remained in the sport after their peak. Competing with teams at the lower end of the championship standing isn’t what a world champion dreams off. Looking at Seb’s career in the past 3 years of his F1 stint, it is clear that Lewis Hamilton’s decision was inspired from it.

In an interview with Bild he stated the one thing that he wanted before leaving the sport for good. “I think it is the dream of any athlete to become a world champion. I want this too,” he said. After losing the world title in a dramatic manner to Max Verstappen back in 2021, last season wasn’t very different as Lewis finished it with no traces of gold in his trophy cabinet.

The 2023 season however looks promising for the Mercedes driver with the porpoising technical directives in place. Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes are in a great position to fight for the top spot in the pinnacle of motorsport. It will be interesting to see Lewis Hamilton compete against George Russell in their second season together as teammates at Mercedes.
