“There’s certain things that your drivers have the right to discuss in private,” Christian Horner shares details about the dispute between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez

Christian Horner has had a phenomenal season in 2022 being at the helm of Red Bull Racing. With talented drivers such as Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez racing for the team, it was without a doubt that this year was the team’s most successful season till date. However it didn’t not go smoothly all the time as there were some disputes that got a bit heated during the end.
Fans and some critics were of the opinion that Sergio Perez had purposely crashed his Red Bull in Monaco during qualifying in the French riviera. This in turn prevented teammate Max Verstappen from grabbing pole positions for the grand prix that the Mexican eventually ended up winning. This did not sit well with the Dutch driver who had won last time out when F1 raced in Monaco.
Fast forward to Brazil, Sergio Perez was in a fight with Charles Leclerc to finish 2nd in the standings. Sergio has always given his place up for Max Verstappen when instructed to do so playing the ultimate team game. However, when it was Verstappen’s time in Brazil, he refused to give up his position so that he could help Perez grab valuable points. He stated that this was in response to Checo’s antics in Monaco.
Christian Horner reveals what he did to defuse the situation at Red Bull
Here is what the Red Bull team boss had to say about the whole situation. “I think there’s certain things that your drivers have the right to discuss in private between themselves,” Christian Horner said during the interview. “You could see that by the time they’d arrived in Abu Dhabi, and I think this has been a phenomenal pairing for Red Bull,” he continued.
Christian Horner did what he does best and made sure that all things between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez would be cleared out before the final race in Abu Dhabi. The team went on to have their most successful season having won 17 out of the 22 races taking place. With such a level of domination during the 2022 season, it will be hard to replicate the same in 2023.
