Atletico Madrid will take on Real Madrid in an intense Copa del Rey clash at Santiago Bernabeu today. Ahead of the exciting derby between the two Madrid giants, Real Madrid youngster Vinicus Jr. has again been targeted by Atletico fans.

The Atletico Madrid ultras have repeatedly performed a disgusting stunt against the Los Blancos winger. Atletico fans hung a dummy of the youngster off a bridge in the Spanish capital. They also put up a huge banner saying “Madrid hates Real” and chanted racial slurs for the Brazilian. No action has been taken against these ultras as of now.

According to reports from Diario AS, a fan group called ‘Frente Atletico is suspected to be behind this incident. The group has also put up posters around Madrid ahead of the Copa del Rey match between the two historic rivals. Before this sickening stunt, Atletico fans also chanted racial slurs for Vinicius Jr. outside Wanda Metropolitano before the first Madrid derby of the season. Yet again, Spanish authorities ignored this behavior as the fans escaped unpunished.

How did Real Madrid star Vinicus Jr. respond to constant racist abuse?

Fans in Spain have often targeted Vinicus Jr. with racism during the Brazilian’s time with Real Madrid. The youngster even appealed to La Liga to take appropriate measures against these racist incidents. “Racists continue to go to stadiums and watch the biggest club in the world up close, and LaLiga continues to do nothing,” Vinicius wrote on Twitter. He was also abused during Real Madrid’s clash against Real Valladolid at the Jose Zorrilla Stadium.

The 23-year-old winger has recently turned his career around after explosive performances for the European champions. Vinicius Jr has evolved into one of the best players in the world in his position. He was instrumental in the club’s Champions League campaign. The winger scored the winning goal in the competition’s final against Liverpool.  

The youngster has scored 11 goals and assisted 5 times in 27 appearances for Real Madrid this season. His dribbling skills and outrageous pace have turned him into one of the biggest attacking threats for the Spanish giants. A promising talent in world football, Vinicus Jr’s creativity, and Brazilian flare has impressed fans around the globe.
