Helmut Marko Makes Bold Lewis Hamilton And Mercedes Prediction for Saudi Arabian Grand Prix

Despite Hamilton and Mercedes dominating the past few weeks in Formula 1, Red Bull chief Helmut Marko remains confident ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Marko commented that he is confident Mercedes’ new engine will not give Lewis Hamilton the same performance he enjoyed in Brazil in the final two races of the season due to the high degradation of their engines. Hamilton took a new fifth engine in Brazil due to which he also served a five-grid penalty but damaged limitation as he very easily won the Brazilian GP as he flew past everyone with a new engine on his back.

The Briton and Mercedes returned to the older engine for the next race which took place in Qatar, where Hamilton secured another win without even using the new engine. Ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Toto Wolff has confirmed that the team and Hamilton will be going back to the new engine that was used in Brazil. After Hamilton’s strong weekend in Qatar, Toto Wolff told Sky Sports “Saudi should be a good track for us, but we know this year, when you think it’s a good one, it can turn the other way around,”

Even after two consecutive wins for Hamilton and Mercedes, Helmut Marko feels Mercedes’ confidence was premature, considering Hamilton is on his fifth engine and Valtteri Bottas, his team-mate, has used up six engines across the season. Ahead of the Saudi Arabian GP, Marko commented “We know from Hamilton that his Brazil engine has now run about 400 kilometers,” Marko told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. “And the degradation of that engine is high.”

Helmut Marko further added, “That rocket will not have as much power in the coming races as it did at Interlagos, we think.” With just 2 more races to go until the World Championship is decided, both Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton will have a crucial weekend ahead as the Formula 1 action heads to Saudi Arabia.
