In Short
  • Giants fans threaten to boycott the season after quarterback Jaxson Dart's appearance at a Trump rally.
  • Dart's teammate Abdul Carter expressed disapproval of his actions on social media but later clarified there was no rift.
  • The backlash against Dart is intensifying, with critics highlighting Trump's controversial history and Dart's lack of justification for his appearance.

The New York Giants are in a bit of a puddle as a sizable number of fans threaten to cancel their season tickets in the wake of Jaxson Dart‘s recent appearance in a rally hosted by U.S. Representative Mike Lawler.

The Ole Miss alum and Giants’ quarterback took the stage last Friday at Rockford Community College, where he introduced the current president and business mogul, Donald Trump, onto the podium.

Dart has shot into the limelight with his energetic and explosive rookie season. He has been a constant feature in the offseason news mill, with fashionable outings with his girlfriend, Marissa Ayers. According to early reports, the quarterback didn’t wait for permission from the Giants before the controversial incident on May 22, 2026.

Earlier, one of Dart’s teammates, Abdul Carter, showed his displeasure with his behavior. In a tweet, Carter commented, “Thought this (expletive) was AI. What we doing, man?” He has since deleted his criticism and clarified through another post that there’s no rift between them and blasted the media for making narratives.

Nonetheless, it has sparked some heated conversations online, and there’s still a question whether the locker room is divided on Dart’s public outing. The latest fan-boycott sentiment comes amid this.

Amid the war in Iran and soaring costs of living, Trump’s disapproval rates are at an all-time high. The poll from Impact Research/National Research Inc., sponsored by WSJ, showed a net disapproval rate of 16 points.

Furthermore, the state of New York has leaned democratic for the last several decades; the last time New York voted Republican in a presidential election was in 1984 for Ronald Reagan. There hasn’t been a Republican governor in more than two decades.

As of now, nineteen congressional districts in the state are blue. Lawler, representing the 17th New York district, is a Republican, though his views are considerably liberal.

Lawler made history when he was elected in 2022, flipping the seat red after four decades of Democratic representatives. The New Jersey 5th congressional district, where MetLife Stadium is located, has voted Democratic in all presidential, gubernatorial, and Senate races since 2008.

Jeff Pearlman and Bill Madden question Jaxson Dart’s intentions with the appearance at a political rally

The New York Giants had a revamped energy last season and cemented themselves as a prominent playoff contender with a young core to center them. The Giants welcomed a new head coach with Super Bowl experience, John Harbaugh, to the franchise.

Harbaugh has famously aligned himself with Donald Trump and his ideologies. He and his family have visited the White House on several occasions, dined, and acknowledged that he roots for Trump’s success the same way he wished for his team. It’s unclear whether Harbaugh paved the way for Dart to appear at the event.

As time rolls around, the backlash is only getting stronger. Jeff Pearlman, author of several bestselling sports-based books, had a harsh criticism aimed at the Big Blue signal caller. Pearlman said it was a disappointing act from the youngster. He highlighted some of the serious allegations levied on the business mogul and went ahead to call out Dart for supporting Trump, whom he calls a “racist, s*xist piece of [expletive].”

Bill Madden doubled down on Pearlman’s comments and acknowledged that he found them to be true. He stated that Dart had zero excuse for his actions.
