Kyle Busch, Richard Childress Racing driver, had a message for Denny Hamlin regarding the penalty. Hamlin wrecked into Ross Chastain’s car at the Phoenix Raceway. And, on his podcast “Actions Detrimental”, Hamlin admitted he did it intentionally. As a result of this, NASCAR gave him a penalty. He was fined $50,000 and penalised 25 points.
Kyle Busch, the two-time Cup Series champion, reacted to this drama by stating, “Keep your mouth shut”. Busch feels that Denny Hamlin should not have said anything on his podcast. Busch also recalled the time Logano wrecked him in 2017. The Candy Man felt the 2017 incident was on purpose though Logano never admitted it. Interestingly, it still bothers him.
Busch further went on to speak about the lack of respect among drivers. He stated, “That’s where the problem lies. Nobody gives two shits about anybody else. It’s just a problem where everybody takes advantage of everybody as much as they can. We’re all selfish, granted, but there was an etiquette that once did live here.” The 37-year-old wants the drivers to be more ethical and take responsibility for their actions.
Kyle Busch wants the drivers to follow racing etiquette
Busch credited the NASCAR Hall of Famer, Mark Martin, for starting the racing etiquette. According to Busch, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte, and Dale Jarrett lived by it. He feels that it did exist once but does not anymore. The two-time Cup Series champion tried talking to drivers about racing etiquette, but they did not listen. Therefore, he lost interest in trying to share his wisdom with them.
“I had a teammate that I talked to as a kid that raced for me for two years in the Truck series who I got into it with last week. I tried to talk to him about those exact same issues and lo and behold it happened to me three races into a new year somewhere else. I’m done talking to them.” Kyle Busch has given up on advising young drivers. He is quite disappointed that nobody listened to him.
Kyle Busch mentioned that his son Brexton is aware that he can’t run over someone during a race, if he did, he would get sent to the rear of the field. Busch feels that there are no repercussions in NASCAR. However, he admitted he had made mistakes in the past. It was Tony Stewart who spoke to him about racing etiquette. The owner of Kyle Busch Motorsports tried talking to 14 drivers who came through the team, and while some of them listened to him, most drivers did not.
