5 worst WWE Money in the Bank matches

WWE Money in the Bank is, inarguably, one of the best gimmick matches that WWE has ever produced. With a handful of WWE Superstars participating in the match, these matches often continue for a long period of time, and at times get dull and boring.

The gimmick is itself exciting, but WWE has the responsibility of ensuring that the fans witness an exciting bout. Seemingly, WWE has kept this in mind this year, and opted to include high-flying Superstars like John Morrison and Ricochet for the match. But there have been several instances where fans were disappointed from such matches.

Here is our list of 5 worst WWE Money in the Bank matches:

#5 Wrestlemania XXVI

Prior to having its own Pay Per View, WWE Money in the Bank matches were a regular feature on the WWE Wrestlemania card. Wrestlemania XXVI was the final Mania to feature a MITB match, and it was one of the worst MITB ladder match.

The match suffered mainly due to the fact that it featured 10 WWE Superstars. There were just too many Superstars too keep track of, in a Ladder match. If this wasn’t all, the eventual winner, Jack Swagger took an eternity to unhook the briefcase.  

#4 2019 Women’s Money in the Bank match

The 2019 women’s Money in the Bank ladder match featured a mix of newcomers and veterans. The match is on this list, simply because of the fact that there was no memorable spot on the match, which are a common part of Money in the Bank matches.

Additionally, the clear favourite prior to the match, Bayley went on to win the match. There wasn’t much surprise and shock involved in the match and that’s what made this match bland.

#3 2015 WWE Money in the Bank match

 The star-studded WWE Money in the Bank ladder match featured the likes of Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Kane and Sheamus among others. Despite having numerous top-level talents involved in the match, it failed to live up to all the hype.

The Big Dog was the clear favourite to win the match, but WWE decided to shock the fans. While a Superstar like Neville could’ve benefitted the most from a MITB win, WWE went with Sheamus as the winner of the underwhelming match.

#2 2012 Raw Money in the Bank match

The 2012 Money in the Bank match from the Raw brand featured former WWE Champions – John Cena, Chris Jericho, The Miz, Kane and Big Show colliding for a WWE Championship shot. The biggest downer for this match was the obviousness of Cena winning.

Cena was such a dominant Superstar that he did not need a MITB contract win to get a shot at the title. The whole match was deemed pointless, earning it a spot on this list.

#1 2020 Women’s Money in the Bank match

In the defence of this match, it was a cinematic match and had taken place simultaneously with the men’s match. It feature the Superstars climbing the “corporate ladder” at WWE Headquarters. It featured several comedic moments, but simply lacked wrestling.

But the stakes of the match were surprisingly raised after the match was over. After Asuka had won the contract, Becky Lynch dropped the bombshell that she was pregnant and Asuka had won the Championship, not a shot at it.
