The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes, has been one of the most popular WWE superstars since returning in April 2022. Despite being a Monday Night Raw superstar, Rhodes appeared on SmackDown this week. The American Nightmare wrestled a dark match after the show went off air.
Cody Rhodes returned from a career-threatening injury in January 2023 and won the Royal Rumble. He wrestled Roman Reigns in the main event of Night 2 of WrestleMania 39 in a losing attempt. Brock Lesnar attacked Cody on the next episode of Raw. As a result, Rhodes has been feuding with The Beast ever since.
After the latest episode of SmackDown, Cody Rhodes surprised the crowd in attendance with a dark match. He wrestled against the former WWE Champion, The Miz. The match was loudly cheered by the fans, who waited back after the show was done. This week’s episode of SmackDown ended with a lot of drama.
The main event of the show was Roman Reigns’ 1000-day celebration as the Universal Champion. Triple H introduced the new Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to honor the Tribal Chief’s milestone. The Game awarded the new title to Roman Reigns in the ceremony.
Solo Sikoa and Paul Heyman accompanied the champion, while The Usos crashed the party later. Jimmy Uso confronted The Tribal Chief for the first time since his shocking betrayal at Night of Champions. Solo Sikoa later attacked him as an act of revenge for attacking The Head of the Table.
The Bloodline officially broke up after almost two years of a compelling storyline. The story is far from over, as it is expected that The Usos will fight Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa at Money in the Bank.
Plans for Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam
The American Nightmare wrestled The Beast Incarnate at Night of Champions in a grueling match. Lesnar destroyed Rhodes, getting a victory and settling the score between the two. As of now, Cody Rhodes is still feuding with the Beast Incarnate.
However, reports are indicating that WWE has two options for Cody Rhodes’ opponent. WWE might continue the existing feud between Rhodes and Lesnar and plan to end it in Michigan, the location for SummerSlam. The other option is that the 37-year-old might go back to challenge Roman Reigns for a WrestleMania rematch.
Therefore, irrespective of what option the creative heads in WWE go with, the fans of Cody Rhodes will have a good time in the coming months. The build-up in both feuds has been phenomenal. Fans will be excited to watch their favorite superstars clash at the biggest party of the summer.
