There have been many returns in WWE ever since Triple H has taken the reigns of creative in WWE. While some have delivered, others have been underwhelming. Karrion Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux are the names that arguably fall under the latter type. The character of Kross has been a confusing one for the fans. However, they finally got some insights into his gimmick from the man himself.

In an interview with Muscle & Fitness, Karrion Kross talked about how he sees his character as not a human but an energy. The former NXT champion said, “I like to think of Karrion Kross, not actually as a human being. I like to think of him as a very dark energy in the room. Like, when you walk into a place that you know you shouldn’t be, late at night, like a haunted house or something. You know you shouldn’t be there, but you feel like you should stay because you are about to see something that you are not going to be able to see anywhere else! He is the dark energy in the room, manifesting as a person.”

Before his release the previous year, Kross had a disastrous main roster run in WWE. He lost his first match to Jeff Hardy while still being the NXT champion at the time. If this wasn’t bad enough, Karrion had a complete character revamp in the following weeks. He came down the ring with a helmet, harness, and trunks, confusing fans even more. After his return, though, he has gone back to his indie and NXT gimmick of “Killer Kross.”

When Killer Kross returned to WWE with his original gimmick, the fans had high hopes for him. Immediately after his return, he inserted himself into the title picture, confronting Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns. Since then, though, the two-time NXT champion has had a disappointing run as the character has failed to connect with the crowd.

After his rivalry with McIntyre, Kross started a feud with Rey Mysterio. Although an intriguing prospect, the buildup in recent weeks has provided little to no substance to the story. Kross’ backstage promos seem rambling and repetitive every week. Both superstars are confirmed for the Men’s Royal Rumble match this Saturday. However, before that, they will have a one-on-one match on Friday Night SmackDown. Maybe the WWE Universe will finally get to see something new in the feud heading into Saturday’s event.
