On the TV screens, the world of WWE is filled with entertainment, glitz and glamour. But the backstage world of the business used to be in complete contrast. As WWE grew in size, the incidents behind the scenes continued to increase.

Such controversial stories are usually buried by the company, as they go out of their way to ensure that the news doesn’t reach the fans. But this list, covers the WWE secrets that have either been confirmed by the concerned Superstars themselves, or has been revealed by the employees who have witnessed it.

Here is our list of  dark WWE secrets from behind the scenes:

#1 Vince McMahon did not want to push Gail Kim

Gail Kim is considered to be one of the all-time great women’s wrestler in the whole industry. But surprisingly, Kim never experienced much success during her stint with WWE. Kim had two stints with the company, but wasn’t a huge success with either of them.

Gail Kim appeared for an interview with Jim Ross, where she revealed that she was never given a push on WWE, as Vince McMahon did not find her attractive. She mentioned that the WWE CEO and Chairman didn’t believe that men could find an Asian woman attractive. Such a sexist comment has made Kim adamant about never working with WWE ever again.  

#2 Shawn Michaels passed out backstage, due to substance abuse

Shawn Michaels is inarguably one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time. But back in the 90’s, Michaels was on the other end of the spectrum. He had alcohol and drug abuse issues, getting him an unfavorable reputation backstage.

Chris Jericho had revealed that in one of his first interactions with Michaels, he saw him pass out backstage. But soon, Michaels went into rehab and cleaned up, before returning to WWE in 2002, for an unforgettable stint.

#3 Vince McMahon wanted to add a blue dot over Christian’s face

Over the years, the WWE programming has prepared us for some really bizarre ideas, that Vince McMahon comes up with. Former writer Court Bauer revealed that McMahon had once suggested editing a giant blue dot over Christian’s face, every time he was on air – wrestling in a match or even cutting a promo.

The reason for this was that McMahon did not like Christian’s appearance. Despite the credibility that Christian has earned over the years, it is surprising to hear that McMahon seriously considered not showing Christian’s face to the world.

#4 Triple H wanted the highest video game rating

Back in the day, Triple H was infamous for using and often abusing his power. He always had an upper hand in bookings, due to his relationship with Stephanie McMahon. He was known, to often bury his opponents, for satisfying his own ego.

Reportedly, Triple H wanted a higher rating for his character on a WWE video game. He even mentioned to the developers to not include his character in any angles that would portray him weak!

#5 Eric Bischoff has a real-life rivalry with Ric Flair

This backstage secret has been revealed by several Superstars over the years. Eric Biscoff hated Ric Flair so much that he legitimately wanted to hurt Flair. The Nature Boy felt disrespected when he was put in the background, and wrestlers like Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan were pushed.

It has also been revealed that Bischoff would often deliver speeches to the locker room, running down Flair in his absence. Bischoff had once even vowed to destroy Flair’s life by suing him court for everything he had.

#6 The residuals of lower-level wrestler would go to the bigger Superstars

Backstage politics is quite apparent in the world of professional wrestling. The divide between the Big Superstars and lower-level wrestlers has long been present. Chris Jericho once revealed that his then girlfriend/now wife had purchase an action figure of him and Dean Malenko, but the receipt showed the names of Hulk Hogan and Sting.

This basically meant that the top Superstars would earn residual money, even from the merchandise of the lower-level talents. While this was a case on WCW, similar stories have not come out for WWE.

#7 X-Pac took a dump in Sable’s bag

At a point in WWE history, Sable had become the most popular woman in the company and she had developed quite an ego about it. Jim Cornette and Paul Bearer have revealed that X-Pac once decided to humble Sable with a prank.

X-Pac decided to take a dump in her bag. But it turned into one of the most ashamed stories in WWE history, and also a story that WWE wants to keep in their long list of WWE secrets, as Sable sued the company for harassment issues.

#8 Kevin Nash called wrestler “Vanilla Midgets”

WCW was infamous for their constant failure to build new stars. With the exception of Goldberg, wrestlers like Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio were limited to the mid-card. Interestingly, they went on to become World Champions on WWE.

Kevin Nash used to believe that these talented individuals couldn’t become massive stars and called them “vanilla midgets” implying that they were too small and had no personality. But over the years, Jericho and Mysterio have managed to become bigger stars than Nash was.

#9 Owen Hart was unsure about the stunt that killed him

One of the most tragic days in the history of professional wrestling was when Owen Hart died. While making an entrance as the Blue Blazer, Hart fell to his death. The entrance was the idea of Vince Russo, and Jim Cornette still hates Russo for this reason.

According to Cornette, Owens wasn’t comfortable with the entrance but still went ahead with the risky stunt as he did not want to cause an issue. While Russo claims that he never knew about it, the fact that Owen was hesitant makes the incident all the more tragic. 

#10 Chris Jericho was bullied by DX

Chris Jericho has revealed that the DX members, especially Triple H used to bully him a lot. This was during Jericho’s early days with WWE. He had left WCW to join WWE.

Things worsened for Jericho, when Triple H’s then girlfriend Chyna, accused him of hitting her too hard. But thankfully, Jericho overcame all of this and became friends with Triple H.
