McLaren’s current run of form has been worrying for Andreas Seidl and what has added to the worries is Alpine’s resurgence in the last few races. Currently, McLaren enjoy a slender lead of 6 points over Alpine and 22 points over Alfa Romeo, two of their closest rivals. We understand that McLaren doesn’t have the best of cars but it’s enough to be competitive.

Lando Norris has been the saving grace for Andreas Seidl and McLaren, with Daniel Ricciardo failing to put in any sort of performances. The Australian has a total of 15 points in 10 Grand Prix, which is nowhere enough when compared to where McLaren wants to be in the constructor’s championship. While Daniel Ricciardo is struggling, Fernando Alonso has impressed everyone with his five consecutive points finish for Alpine.

This could have been a whole lot worse for McLaren if Alpine had some luck going their way. There have been umpteen situations when the team from France has found itself in promising situations like Canada and Britain, but had no luck whatsoever to take full advantage of the situation. But, the sharks are closing in on McLaren and Andreas Seidl would want to right his ship pretty quickly.

During a press conference, he clarified McLaren is still focused on the current season and not thinking about the upcoming seasons. He said, “The first three [teams] are gone. But we want to be the best of the rest and draw the right conclusions for our 2023 car.

He also confirmed that Daniel Ricciardo’s form has been worrying for McLaren. But he also backs the Australian. He said, “It is very clear that it is my job as team boss to protect the team from the outside world. In the last 20 years, I have not seen a driver become faster because he was publicly criticised.”

“We have a contract with Daniel for next year and that’s why we’re all staying calm, keeping working hard and trying to find those percentages that he is missing at the moment. And then we look forward to better results with him again.”

Daniel Ricciardo has been the root of McLaren’s problems because Lando Norris has shown that there is more to be extracted out of that car. So, Andreas Seidl would have to find a way to get more out of Daniel sooner rather than later.
