The Best in the World, CM Punk, has been the hot topic of the internet ever since he made his jaw-dropping return to WWE. The Straight Edge Superstar has already set new records for the company in less than a week after returning. Renowned names from different walks of life shared their thoughts on the superstar’s unforeseen comeback. Having said that, UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier recently disclosed that he texted Punk after his return.
Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier was a recent guest on Ariel Helwani’s popular talk show, MMA Hour. While in conversation, the 44-year-old weighed in on the jaw-dropping comeback of the Straight Edge Superstar. The UFC Hall of Famer unveiled his text conversation with the former WWE Champion.
Speaking about the same, Cormier texted Punk, highlighting the deafening pop the latter received upon his staggering return. According to the 45-year-old, the pop was so loud that he couldn’t hear his own entrance music. Furthermore, the UFC legend remarked that today’s WWE is far different from the WWE it was a decade ago.
I texted him. I said, 'Dude, what a freaking pop.' He goes, 'I couldn't even hear my music it was so loud.' He said it was so loud in there he couldn't even hear his music. This is the new WWE though, right? It doesn't matter how bad it ended; you can always go back.Daniel Cormier on the MMA Hour
As a result, the 44-year-old indicated that the Second City Saint coming back to open a new chapter of his WWE career made sense. Cormier also name-dropped former WWE superstar Mercedes Mone, a.k.a. Sasha Banks. He predicted that the Boss would likely return to the company at Royal Rumble 2024.
Mick Foley reviews CM Punk’s recent promo on Raw
This Monday, the Straight Edge Superstar returned to the red brand for the first time in nine years. The 45-year-old closed the show with a brief yet spine-chilling segment on Raw. However, Punk’s recent promo predominantly elicited ambivalent reactions from the fans. Many believed that the promo was so unlike “CM Punk.”
Assessing the same promo, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has offered his expert opinion on Busted Open Radio. The wrestling community, in general, felt that the promo was a watered-down version of CM Punk. It was largely described as tepid and soulless. However, the WWE Hall of Famer, via Wrestling Inc, shared an alternative perspective. He stated that there was a sense of composure in the promo, and it cannot be chastised, per Foley.
Look, he's a master on the mic and it was a really strong promo. It's not a sprint, it's a marathon. He's laying the groundwork for what should be an incredible run.Mick Foley on Busted Open Radio
Appreciating CM Punk’s mic prowess, the 58-year-old said that it was a solid promo. Furthermore, he stated that it is a marathon, not a sprint. As a result, things will unfold gradually. Foley believes that WWE doesn’t want to expedite Punk’s run and that his latest promo was only a warm-up for his eventual full-time run.
