Positive update on The Rock’s plans for WrestleMania 40

Even though The Rock may not wrestle this year at The Grandest Stage of them all, he has at least kept the door open for next year's WrestleMania in Philadelphia.

There were strong rumors of The Rock’s WWE return at the Royal Rumble this past Saturday. However, rumors turned out just rumors after all and nothing came to fruition. During the press conference post-Rumble, Triple H was asked about potential plans for Hollywood’s biggest star at Showcase of the Immortals this year. While getting pretty straightforward, Hunter implied that Dwayne’s just extremely busy right now.

Adding to the context, The Game assured that if time allows, Rock will fight through everything to return home. Quoting the same words they always have, Hunter asserted how they always stay in touch with the Brahma Bull. The bottom line is, Rock will not return until and unless he has the full commitment and time to have a program in WWE.

With that being said, it’s not impossible that he can appear in Los Angeles this year in a non-wrestling capacity. There’s always a chance for a special segment Dwayne can have which doesn’t even requires him to get ring ready. But the real question is, will Roman Reigns vs. The Rock is never going to happen?

For the unversed, things were perfectly shaping up to finally get that dream match to happen this year. With WrestleMania themed for Hollywood, everything was just a tailor-made situation for Rock vs. Reigns. Given that it’s totally off the cards now, Dave Meltzer has stated that Dwayne Johnson has kept the door open on WWE for next year. As known, WrestleMania will be held in Philadelphia in 2024.

When was the last appearance of The Rock in WWE?

That date was over three years ago when The Rock last appeared in WWE. Back in October 2019, on the season premiere of SmackDown on FOX, The Great One was involved in a segment with Becky Lynch and Baron Corbin. After The King dished out some trash talk towards The Trailblazer, the Black Adam star wasn’t going to stay mum.

He sized down Corbin through his impeccable mic game and refreshed those good old days of The Brahma Bull. Things went physical when The Rock decided to unload rights and lefts over the outspoken King. The segment ended with Rock applying his iconic people’s elbow and Rock Bottom on Corbin.
