Daniil Medvedev has made the most of the quick courts of Miami as he reaches his maiden final there. The former World No. 1 has dropped only set, during his semi-final win over compatriot Karen Khachanov defeating him 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-3. He was on a 19-match winning streak before World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz defeated him in the finals of the Indian Wells Masters last week.

With four titles from seven finals at the Masters-1000, Medvedev will be backing himself to conclude the first leg of the season with his fourth title in four months. The Russian will look to retain his unbeaten record against Sinner when they meet in the finals and head into the Golden Swing with a golden form.

Jannik Sinner played out a thriller to avenge his Indian Wells semi-final loss. In what was a repeat fixture against Alcaraz, the Italian reigned supreme winning the match 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2 to enter his second Miami final in three years. The match against Alcaraz was the only time the Italian young gun dropped a set this week.

Having lost his only Masters-1000 final in 2021 to Hubert Hurkacz, Sinner will be happy to win his maiden Masters title in Miami itself. With a good run of form going into the finals and best use of his youthfulness, it could become the Italian’s week if he plays his cards right.

In the five previous meetings between Sinner and Medvedev, the Russian has been the victorious player in all of those occasions. He leads the head-to-head 5-0. The match will also be a repeat of the 2023 Rotterdam Open finals where Medvedev won in three sets to stop Sinner from winning the title. All in all, it is a perfect opportunity for Sinner to get some payback.

Coming into the finals in Miami, Sinner will be concerned with his fitness as he admitted to suffering a few cramps during the semis. Medvedev however had no such worries and is completely fit. With the quick courts assisting both, it could be an exhibition of attack versus defense, with Sinner being the aggressor. Considering all the aspects, Medvedev still edges out Sinner for the title in Miami but it won’t be a shocker if Sinner surprises to prove this prediction wrong.
